Patch tested on my local wiki, it works with the {{nop}} template on en.ws
which was broken by using a simple space instead of the proposed amp;#32;
Beside that, can someone ping a parser maintainer as comment 2 show it's a
parser bug.

I don't see Hebrew names provided in the included jQuery-ui files. (Why does
SemanticForms need third copy of it, in addition to SMW and MW core?)

correct the selectionStart postition problem with chrome.

Since we know the correct selectionStart and selectionEnd, we can check the
values returned by the browser by taking a difference. If start-end is not same
as what we passed and we get from browser, that means there is a problem. In
that case the selectionStart value should be the value we know and not the
browser passed value.

I modified the jquery.textSelection.js encapsulateSelection method to accept
two more optional arguments- selectionStart and selectionEnd. And avoided
calling setSelection method from ext.narayam.core.js. The encapsulateSelection
method will check for those extra options and will set the selection. Then
compare the range values returned by browser and what we passed as options. If
there is a mismatch , correct the startPos and proceed. 

A quick test showed that it is working. I hope I did not break anything.

If {{PAGESINCATEGORY:cat|files}} ever gets implemented, {{MEDIAINCATEGORY:cat}}
could be an alias for this. bug 14237 dates from 2008, so it seems unlikely
that it will ever get done. There isn't really a clear use for most other cases
anyway.

If {{MEDIAINCATEGORY:cat}} is implemented, {{PAGESINCATEGORY:cat|files}} could
be an alias for {{MEDIAINCATEGORY:cat}}.

For a long time the preferences page on VEC Wikipedia is displayed as shown in

Installed Mediawiki 1.17wmf1 in yesterdays SVN version

Installed Maps in trunk version r93922.

Mediawiki does not load, Maps displays:

Error: This version of Maps requires MediaWiki 1.17 or above; use Maps 0.7.x
for older versions.

Disabling Maps fixes this. Goal is to use Semantic Maps with Mediawiki
1.17wmf1, Maps is required for this.

Patch for Special:IndexPages

It seems to me that version in trunk did not perform search at all.

I fixed following issues:
* Disable offset in reallyDoQuery if search was performed. So it won't be
applied twice.
* List of pages is stored in $this-searchList instead of $searchList, so it
will be used in getQueryInfo method.
* When no matching indexes were found the page says so, instead of displaying
all indexes.
* When search button was clicked twice, user was redirected to main page.
* When search button was clicked twice, the previous page limit was lost.
* isCacheable returns false, due to search capabilities.

I wonder if it is really needed. You can always change page status using
action=edit. Proofreading does not only involve changing status, but also
correcting mistakes. In such cases you will have to edit page anyway.

The only pitfall here is that earlier versions of the extension used
PageQuality template. You can replace them by extension tag just by nullediting
all pages.

I think, I've found the major cause of this. There was a bug (Bug 262074) which
caused the extension load.php files didn't get the proper version parameter,
thus somehow MediaWiki 1.17 always regenerated that.

I applied the two fixes mentioned in the report and now, it appeals me much
more :)

Btw. according to the roadmap, 1.18 will be here in a half month, and that will

Hi, I'm having trouble using backlinks generator. Page can only be set through
gbtitle parameter and not - for instance with titles or pageids.

Calling
http://sl.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=querygenerator=backlinkspageids=1gbllimit=maxgblnamespace=0redirectsformat=xml
returns gblnotitle error, whereas links generator at
http://sl.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=querygenerator=linkspageids=1gpllimit=maxgplnamespace=0redirectsformat=xml
works fine.

This is because you have all sorts of CSS rules for #preftoc in
[[MediaWiki:Common.css]], which means they apply to all skins. If they were
only intended to apply to Monobook, put them in [[MediaWiki:Monobook.css]].

Local problem, can be handled by local sysops. Doesn't need developers, so
closing INVALID.

Yeah, I remember those. They were merged to 1.17wmf1, but I guess they were
never merged to 1.17 then.

1.18 should be out relatively soon, yeah.

That's because backlinks is a list module (it's list=backlinksbltitle=Foo,
doesn't work with titles=Foo) and links is a prop module
(prop=linkstitles=Foo), so this is intended behavior. I guess this could be
made clearer in the documentation.

My idea is that in the preferences in incubator, you may choose the type of
language select such as the type at commons and the classic type at incubator.

Then it'd be fine to have blpageid parameter.

IDs are especially practical since comparing numbers takes much less computing
power than strings.

Semantic Forms Inputs uses the localized month names provided by MediaWiki.
Semantic Forms has its own copy of jquery-ui for backward compatibility.

1.17 WMF  1.17 as far as I know. You need 1.17 or later. If you can't get this
version of MW, use Maps and Semantic Maps 0.7.7.

 IDs are especially practical since comparing numbers takes much less computing
 power than strings.
Why would you need to compare them if you already know which page you want
links for? Do you have a real-world use case in which you have the page ID but
not the page title?

I'm writing simple program to find the shortest path between two Wikipedia
articles (using breadth first search algorithm), and it turns out that it's
app. 2 times faster when using page IDs instead of page names.

Language Select: {Text box} (select) (show all)

while that at commons, it's

Language Select: {Selector}

Each one has it's advantages, so I propose that there is different code for
each type.  Also, you may specify your favorite type in your preferences and
only have that type.

 If it's not done by JavaScript, then it should probably be an extension
 implementing something like sociallinks / which would output shortlinks and
 stuff for social networks. Agian, not wikitext so has access to these

On Wikinews we have a wiki template, that uses javascript as a _really ugly_
hack to re-write url's to use the page_id (see [[n:template:Social
Bookmarks]]). Ideally that template would just be plain wiki-markup. I don't
really see how this is any more a technical implementation detail than say
{{REVISIONID}} is. I also think social bookmark links are the ideal case for a
template - Its just a link to some other websites, and presumably with time the
user would want to change which websites as different one's gain in popularity.
There is really not anything that weird about these links requiring an
extension (imho)

(Obviously the use-cases here aren't exactly earth-shattering, but they do
exist, and the negative consequences of yet another semi-useless magic word are
minimal in my opinion)

 Yeah, I remember those. They were merged to 1.17wmf1, but I guess they were
 never merged to 1.17 then.
 
 1.18 should be out relatively soon, yeah.

Still, it would be great if we backported them to 1.17 cause we probably need a
bugfix release already.

In 1.5.6, queries for images would return the image thumbnail, in the standard
mediawiki size. In 1.6, image queries would return the thumbnail and the file
name. In 1.6.1, image queries return the two copies of the thumbnails and the
file names, as well as wrapping them in a table.

The two result copies is clearly a bug. The other extraneous info such as the
filename and tabulated results should be optional. SMW 1.6.1 does not give
sufficient control over image query results to make them useful, and indeed,
regressively breaks the functionality that used to exist to the point that it
may not be useful at all anymore.

I cannot obtain a single specific image thumbnail result anymore.

The main purpose to have this feature Blocking of article titles in roman
script by anon and new users 


The main reason why do we want this feature is Since 50% of spam edits on mr
wiki (although is unintentional test edits) are coming from new users (non
auto-confirmed) and anonymous users.


Why through this extension: Extension is already implemented on mr wiki and
most of wikis. Extension already gives good amount of freedom and options to
local sysops at local level.

This improvement will not only benefit to mr-wiki but many non roman alphabate
wikis

This can already be done in title blacklist extension without dev intervention.

.*[a-zA-Z].*

will match any roman letters (or at least english one's, I'm not sure what
the definition of a roman letter is. Blocking super obscure unicode variants
of latin letters would probably be difficult.)

If you want to limit it to just main namespace, you can do stuff like:

[^:]*[a-zA-Z][^:]*

Similarly, prefix that with a namespace to block a specific namespace

The use case is there are images that belong to some particular page. When
uploading, users select from various attributes to specify what the image
shows. Then, on the page where they belong, queries produce the correct images
for whatever area of the page the image is supposed to appear. For example,
images can be of the front, back, or a close up detail. Some images are
designated as the main images for whatever type they are, and are shown at
the top of pages.

Basically, since images aren't integral to a page per se (they have their own
pages), I'm using SMW to assemble the images in their relevant topic pages.

In queries of those topic pages, a single main image may be shown to allow
quick visual skimming of results.

I'm making use of SMW with files. Most of what I'm trying to do would be
straightforward with anything but files, but for files, it requires a lot of
workarounds. I think files in general need a bit more attention. Here's another
bug about files:

Although there is a workaround for that bug, and it was closed because it was
doable, I think workarounds out to become goals for improvement such that
they're no longer necessary. Most of the shortcomings that are immediately
fixable are in files. 

The other shortcomings are in queries, which seem to be limited by the
capabilities of MySQL, and so need a SPARQL database to resolve.

Being fairly straightforward to improve, I think files/images should get a bit
more development priority than they normally do. They're very useful for making
lots of query results easy to navigate quickly just by looking at them, in
addition to other uses like automatically populating page sections with
relevant images in one step (the file upload step).

bring my attention on the following item, that appears in results: page
pageid=1072401 ns=14 title=Category:Endurance sports /

The problem is, that page is found by redirect at 
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Endurance_sportsredirect=no
which is R to other namespace. Perhaps to avoid such problems, results should
be filtered after all redirects are resolved.

I'll copy my comment from that bug:


I noticed the page [[pt:b:PARTE II - PROVA 102]] is still displayed on
[[pt:b:Special:NewPages]] even after it was moved without leaving a redirect[1]
and I have no way to mark it as patrolled since the patrol link isn't displayed
on that non existent page[2].

It would be better if the [[Special:NewPages]] were updated to point to the new
name instead of the non existent name, or at least marked with class=new and
updated to point to the old page having action=editredlink=1 in the URL, as
happens when we follow a link to a non existent page.

Add a class to the HTML element to identify clients that have Javascript on
would aid developers in hiding things that are Javascript only and do not have
a fallback, without having to add them via Javascript.

Example:

 .client-nojs #someThing { display: none }

Would hide the #someThing element from showing when Javascript was off, and

 .client-js #gizmo { color: blue; 

Would set #gizmo to have a blue text color when javascript was on

There's lingering vandalism on wikitech.wikimedia.org. E.g.,
http://wikitech.wikimedia.org/view/Special:Contributions/Grawp. These
redirects should be killed and possibly the edit summaries should be removed.

I have an account there, but I'm locked out (editors user group or
something). It needs a local admin, in any case.
