Re: [WikiEducator] Re: Help with creating a book in wiki-educator

2011-09-16 Thread john stampe
Sorry about not giving a link.

See for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Link

To summarize where you want the bookmark (anchor) add the html code span
id=anchorname...span and then link to it the same way as a section heading.

I have used it for linking back to definitions, see
http://wikieducator.org/Thermodynamics/Definitions

Thank you, but would appreciate it if you could provide a link for
“anchor point”. I was unable to find a source that implies or shows
how the user of a web page can do this.
MediaWiki summed up what I kept finding in searches:
“To build a system which empowers the user to access information
precisely either the web site administrator or the author of the web
document must manually create appropriate anchors within every web
document.”
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Purple_MediaWiki

I am not sure if Wikieducator has this feature?

Thank you,
Jim Kelly

The word “chapter” you might want to replace with or think the words
“bookmarkable units”. It is very frustrating that OER developers
 sometimes forget to put
themselves in there user’s position. Only
being able to bookmark at the chapter level (or at a major heading)
and finding the concept or example that you want your class to see is
on the fourth screen in may not be very helpful. Or worse having to
use the browser’s FIND option to locate the concept or example. Please
give some thought to how bookmarking can be done in the materials
 being created. Thank you
