The Cartridge has reached the estimated capacity, which was defined by you.
Now you are in the bonus tracks and it is possible that the cartridge can
be extended. The reason why is hardware compression for example.

Your posting doesn't say whether you've looked in the TSM server
Activity Log for an error condition involved in the apparent Web
service problem - do that first.
We don't know your TSM server software level: there may be maintenance
which will fix whatever the problem is.

Why not? :-)
I think the underlying problem is that the product is still using a
single decimal position, which is inappropriate with today's
very-high-capacity

I have seen this when the compression exceeds the predefined size of the
volume. For instance a sdlt320 predefined at 160 and it actually holds
more than that due to compression.

Why would having a different nodename make you not be able to restore? On the
source-node, do a dsmc set access backup * dest-node *. Then in the schedule
for the restore, use the -fromnode=source-node switch.

Yes it happens. Depends on what you specify when you specify tape
capacity.
I found that it would seldom go beyond 100% if you are using client
compression, but will
Hello,
I recently upgraded a Novell client from 5.2.2 to 5.3.0.3 and used
the following procedure to upgrade Novell clients Can anyone tell
me if some of the steps below can be LEFT OUT such as is it necessary
to save the dsmsched.log and dsmerror.log, and copy the .pwd files
to the save area.
It's only necessary to save the old log files if you care about
maintaining the info in them. How much you would loose depends on how
long your log retention periods are (mine are 7 days for instance). The
pwd file is also not necessary to save. If you don't though, you'll
have to rerun dsmc q
Hi Everybody,
Is there a way to schedule multiple Novell backups to run simultaneously for
one node ? We are having trouble with our backups completing in a timely manner
as we have thousand of files which are being scanned for backup. What we would
like to do is have the volume on the node
Thanks again Troy!

There is a way to do what you want, but I would question the
necessecity. We have a handful of file servers with over 1 million
files each, and on average they take about 45min to backup (~2.5GB/day).
If you only have a # of files in the thousands, and it's taking a long
time, then I suspect

hi
here are a few details to add to Richard's original query.
This tsm backup of netware data is now taking us 19 hours to complete !
Any ideas ?
-netware version 6 sp5
-tsafs (version 6.51 JUNE 18 2005)
-client server proliant DL380\G2
-Pentium 3 /1.33GHZ dual processor 512cache

The data only took 6.6 hours to transfer. To me it would look like the
process of scanning the filesystem is taking the majority of the time.
How are your san disks set up ? Raid 5 ? How many physical disks to make
up a volume ? FC disk or sata ? 2gb FC connections ?

Search the list archive - lots of info on this.

Depending on your client level, you may have to convert the filespace to
Unicode to handle the special characters in the files.

In addition to what duane wanted to know, I would look at a couple other
things. In the sys:\etc\sms\tsa.cfg file, check these settings...
Enable Caching - should be no. tsm client already does read-ahead
caching, the tsa caching is redundant.
Cache Memory Threshold - should be set to as high
Our TSM server is version 5.2.
My manager wants to know if we can use TSM to backup an old Digital

Where can I find a list of compatible unix OS for TSM?
