Hi Ian,
Not an expert yet, but did you specify a start date when you defined the
schedule. If it was blank, this may cause it to think the schedule was
active prior to the actual created date.

The schedule start date was from back in 2005.
Does this mean that the events table populates a line for any machine
associated with the schedule back until the start date and if there is
no return code assumes missed?

Tapeless backups have been extensively discussed in the past: look
for D2D and the like in the ADSM-L archives.

The peculiarities of the Events table can be found in many past
discussions preserved in the List archives. It is not an actual
table, but instead presents information derived from other sources in
the TSM database (see APAR IC28825). As noted in ADSM QuickFacts,
you need to specify

So if a scheduled event exists within the eventretention period but was
before the time the node was associated- will this return a missed
status?

It appears to be the case. You can also encounter misses with
small schedule Duration values

What are the contents of your tdpo.opt, dsm.opt and dsm.sys? Also, where

We backup all databases from one physical machine to one TSM node.
Every Oracle Database gets ist own tdpo.opt file in the RMAN definition.
When we backup database DB01 our tdpo.opt file is named tdpo_DB01.opt
and the tdpo_fs is set to DB01 as well.
So you can easily delete backup pieces on the
What do you have defined for the MAXCapacity for for the DEVCLASS? I

Orin,
When you say the IBM experts cannot figure this out,
I assume you meant you have a PMR open with TSM support.
Is that correct? If not, please open a PMR so that the
TSM performance team can figure out where the bottle-neck is.
If so, I would continue to drive the PMR with IBM support.

I've just recently implemented TSM's new journaling service for AIX TSM clients
