Hi,
I'm new to PASSPORT ADVANTAGE features, is there any facility to download
base version of TSM software's?.
Thanks,

TSM Expert,
I have to use storage tek l700e and 9940b drive. I don't
know what type of device class that I must define in TSM.
Could I use generic device type ?
Thanks for advance.

You could use generictape but it's not a good idea. The device class to use
is ecartridge.

PASSPORT ADVANTAGE is what is used to download base versions.
You must be authorized and have an account management id.

Hi Jack,
Search in archive for Re: ASR and TSM server level required (was: Windows
2003 backup to 5.1.7 server) posted 10/16/03.
I´m unsure about 4.1 server and 5.1 client if you look what IBM support..
You can obtain system object backup of Windows 2003 Server using the

We are using RMAN to backup the database to TSM.
My question is using RMAN how does one delete/expire the data out of TSM.
Using the RMAN option I have specified the following for the co group.
Short answer is that RMAN does the deletes. You have to have DBA setup an RMAN script
to do this. Ideally run it daily and you won't have your tapes consumed by the
undeleted data. You probably need to be at least at Oracle 8.1.7.4 or so as earlier
versions had problems deleting etc. Your
Hi,
have a look at

It shows a script which cleans up 30 days back.

I think that you have to be at least at 5.2 for LTO2 to work.

It has turned out that I needed TSM 5.1.6.2 at a minimum (I think). I
had 5.1.5.2. I have updated to 5.1.8.3 (to be sure!) and everything
appears to be working now.

We are working on expanding our TSM systems with additional TSM servers,
libraries, etc.
Here is what we have right now and where we are heading
(1) TSM on ZOS using IBM 3494 ATL
(2) TSM on AIX sharing the 3494 but using its own 3590E1A drives attached
to a SAN via FC

Sean,
This is a good question; I have had a really hard time finding more
information about the store inside TSM for TDP for Oracle. Our TSM is
keeping the TDPO backups forever. (Until I delete the filespace completely).
I've done the same thing with my management class as per instructions
Hi Zoltan...
That's a stumper. I'll throw out a guess for people to stab at.
Appears to me that the 3494 is not an option.
Your Windows TSM server will need to communicate with the 3494 via LAN
(TCPIP), just as your AIX box does. Or with TSM library sharing, it has to
communicate with the
A little stabbing here...
You can actually have a host talk to the 3494 through a serial
port, it doesn't have to be Ethernet.
We have an AIX/TSM server in a DMZ that we connect back to the
3494 so we can share the library without opening ports in the firewalls.
We have
Hi Gary,
I'm not sure if your e-mail contains typos or not, but the first thing that
I noticed is that you do not have a comma separating the selected fields i.e
select events.node_name, nodes.contact from events nodes where. If you do
have the commas separating the selected fields
Wira,
If you use the Gresham Advantape driver for the 9940b's, you use the
generictape device class. If you use the Tivoli driver, you will use the
ecart device class.

I got a tsm question for you. I have a windows 2000 server that has over
1.5 million archive image files on it. They are all small (less than 10k)
but it takes hours for tsm to scan all the files. Is there something I can
do to make this run faster?

Hello all,
Enviro:
TSM Server V5.1.7.0 on Win2k Sp4
If I enter the following command:
Q ACT BEGIND=-4 SEARCH=BOISE5
I would expect this to return all the entries containing the string BOISE5
(a computer name in this case). However, below is a snipped paste of the
actual results. Any ideas
Well, I think we sorta figured we would have to break the rule by
connecting the isolated TSM server to the 3494 LM. However, will the
3494LM handle multiple, different network connections (i.e. from two
different networks/subnets since the existing TSM AIX system is already
connected via a
Dunno if the 3494 can take 2 nics or not.
I like the previous poster's suggestion to use a serial connection, that
will get you around the firewall problem.
But even so, that doesn't get you drive sharing, only robot sharing.
Buying drives for the 3494 is $$painful.
Still think you will come out
Check out APAR IC32293 (go to www.ibm.com and put the APAR number is as a
search criterion) to see if that might be the problem. Is BOISE5 by any
chance the name (or part of the name) of a TSM server?

I saw the APAR. Thanx Andy, that be the problem. It's existed since
version 3.7 it appears, so its surprising it is still a bug. But, if
that's the worst of the bugs I have to deal with, I'm one happy prop-head!

Whoa,
I don't have anything constructive to add but I must say it
freaked me out when I see a host name of BOISE5.
~I~ have a host by that name?!?! Who is this guy?
I guess that's one of the hazards of being based in Boise Id.

Yes Chris, this APAR is being closed as DOC.
The reason for this is that event log records have the originating server
name associated with it. Even if it isn't displayed in the QUERY ACTLOG
output, it is searchable with the QUERY ACTLOG command. Hence the
seemingly odd behavior.
I understand
I use Tivoli Data Protection for Oracle 2.2.1, BA and API client 5.2.0 on
Oracle 9.2, Solaris 9. TSM is on Solaris 8.
When starting a TDPO channel, the tdpo.conf is referenced. Within
tdpo.conf, a dsm.opt is referenced. In documentation, filespace /adsmorc
must be bound to correct management
I have some servers that we are end of lifeing. But I don't want to trash
their data, and no further backups would be done.
It can 'age off' gracefully, that is OK.
I need brainstorming here:
1. could we re-associate the file space with another client? (optimal, I
think)
2. generate a new tape
Can't the 3494 be configured to communicate via rs232 as well as LAN?
That might satisfy the requirement in this case.

We've got our 3494 library connected via rs232 as well as LAN - no problems there.

Aging off could happen only if the node administrators had the foresight to
perform a final backup with the original file system
Jason,
It goes as follows. When initiating a TDP backup, the tdpo.opt file is referenced.
That calls the dsm.opt which in turn calls the dsm.sys.
The tdpo.opt and the dsm.opt should be in /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/oracle/bin64. (just
bin if you're not running 64 bit)
The dsm.sys has to be in
