Permissions not fixed under OSX 10.4.3

Since upgrading to OSX 10.4.3, every time I fix disc permissions on my startup drive Disc utility still leaves dozens unfixed, even after running Disc Utility off the boot DVD as well. Is this common after the Tiger upgrade, and is there something else that will REPAIR all these permissions?

My new G4/800 won't emit any sound from either the system or any apps when booting into OS9. The OS9 Sound control panel doesn't show any output even though Sound Manager's extension is loaded. Volume on full but everything is silent. All sound works fine in OSX and in Classic but I have a legacy

I would suggest waiting until after the login process is over before plugging in the firewire drive. Not pretty but will get over the kernel panic you are experiencing. I tried this, as well as turning on the firewire disc well after bootup.still the same. I'll try the shift suggestion
