Excuse me, maybe we explained myself badly. Evolution has several accounts, but the log you saw refers to only one, the one that has the 16,259 messages not deleted on the server. The 16,259 messages were all regulary received and downloaded from server (when I deleted the directories you told me

Well all solved!! It was enough to delete in ~/.local/share/evolution/mail all the folders with the name [number]@[hostname] with the exception of the directories "local", "trash", "vfolder". I checked and all messages were deleted even on pop3 servers. Thank you so much Milan! Il giorno mer,
