I can see a couple after upgrading to 13213 from 13210 and loads after
upgrading to 13217.
IMHO this behavior should not be version dependend.
Could you have a look in to the ASSP and MTA logs. I expect that something
like this happens (S=MTA,C=Client):

C EHLO...
Colin - please telnet your ASSP machine with the EHLO command.
Not a single of the following SMTP extension should be offered in the
answer of ASSP - even if the MTA is doing so. The offer of CHUNKING and/or
PIPELINING to the client, could lead in to the same or similar behavior.

250-AUTH PLAIN LOGIN
250 HELP
I don't think I can disable SSL - that would cripple most of the systems
that talk through it and we'd get lots of calls about mail queuing and not
