Thomas, I am reporting this to document the issue, but it has a simple solution, which is don't do that...
I maintain several OS/Perl/ASSP virtuals for testing, with the same set of live IP addresses, etc. When bringing one online for testing, I usually copy the /files directory aside. Shutdown the current. Start up the test. Copy the current /files onto the test system. Except, one time, I forgot to copy the /files. No problem, I thought. Copy the /files from one of the other live systems. They are all the same... Ooops. They aren't the same. Each localdomains.txt has ALL=>"localip":125. The local MTA will only talk to the local ASSP. So, when the test system tried to verify a recipient address with the remote MTA (from which it was copied and which would not talk to it), that thread hung. After 5 incoming requests, ASSP is hung. Solid. Cannot shut down the Windows service. The solution, of course, is to ensure that the local IP in ALL=>"localip":125 is the correct one or that the remote will talk to another system. Did take me a couple of minutes to figure that one out. -- Michael Thomas Mathbox 978-687-3300 Toll Free: 1-877-MATHBOX (1-877-628-4269) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Try New Relic Now & We'll Send You this Cool Shirt New Relic is the only SaaS-based application performance monitoring service that delivers powerful full stack analytics.
