I’m working on a fresh Asterisk install over CentOS7 base. I’m using “Asterisk.
The Definite guide” book as a reference.
I connect and work using SSH
Problem I have - I can’t connect to asterisk from remote. Getting error:
$ sudo asterisk -rvv
Unable to connect to remote
Please disregard this post! I found issue, wonder if there is more elegant
solution. I had to disable SELinux. Is it good idea?

solved, permissions problem. Asterisks run with user asterisk at default, I
changed to asteriskpbx as the book says ;)

i used to have this problem. i solved it by recompiled it and change
modify the asterisk/Makefile by changing the ASTVARRUNDIR to something
like this.
ASTVARRUNDIR=$(INSTALL_PREFIX)/var/run/asterisk

I'm trying to figure out why the asterisk service starts fine, but
when i try to connect by typing asterisk -r I get:
Unable to connect to remote asterisk
The service is running and lists under ps -ef as:
asterisk -vvvg -c
any help is appreciated
Jason, when I've seen this, it's usually meant that I
was logged in as a user who didn't have the right
permissions. :)
Check your notes to figure out which user you gave the
permission to (root, maybe?) and log in as that user,
then try to connect using asterisk -r.
