I don't understand why Firefox (or Internet Explorer) has an offline
mode at all.
It is very much helpful for DSL users as well. Sometimes, I want to
avoid my browser add-ons from unnecessarily accessing web resources
while something large is being downloaded or I am voice-chatting.

Just reminding you guys, but laptops come with a network off switch
typically on the side or front of it. So I don't think disabling is a

I have just got back from an Ubuntu user's office where their Ubuntu
computer 'didn't work at all'. It turns out that the networking checkbox
was unchecked and the computer was simply offline.
Before I fixed it though I wanted to see how the user assessed the
problem and tried
