If you are watching a movie or looking at photos, you don’t want the
cursor and notifications in the way … if it is actively being used
because you’re in a workflow, you don’t want to be annoyed either.

Actually, IIRC OS X does this and it's quite a nice feature (although
sometimes it just appears like it's a bug rather than a feature).
