I recommend getting an USB switch and connecting the Braille Star and the USB Keyboard to it. These are cheap, and it should work reliably. The BrailleStar 80 is a desktop device, so you are unlikely to carry it around often. I think this is a hardware problem, either in the converter or with the PS/2 port of the Star.
