That is because the correct Spanish pronunciation of the
letter "V" is like the letter "B" as pronounced in English.

You are right about Castilian, but remember, Mexican Spanish is the
dialect most spoken in the USA.

But Mexican spanish is not spoken in Spain or Andorra. Same for Latin
American spanish. If you are going to be in Spain or Andorra do as the
natives do and speak pure Castilian. They might not understand you
otherwise.
