Try LOTS LOTS of exercise, really tire him out. Low protein food has been known
to help along with benedryl, melatonin, valerian, st johns wort. Also if you
are home and he barks while near you make a bridging sound, buy a whistle, then
leave the room. Yelling while he is barking is barking

would look into dog behaviorists who are very knowledgeable with anxiety

Poor little guy has been traumatized which is causing his high anxiety. I
would try Rescue Remedy, it is a calming aid and works very well without any
side effects. I would take him for long walks, but give the Rescue Remedy
(Dr Foster and Smith,com sells it) 1/2 an hour before you walk him. I
He barks, you say nothing, blow whistle and leave room. Basically it will teach
him instead of getting attention for barking barking drives people away. All
dogs should know basic obed, taking him to a GOOD class will help. Then he gets
attention for good stuff. Using NILIF is helpful too.
There are also herbal remedies for dogs alot of which are for calming .
Look up Bachs Flower Remedies for dogs . He sounds so anxious , poor little
guy , that is just awful !!
