I have generally had good luck with Poliglow despite it not being recommended for Awlgrip. I had used it to great effect on my previous boat, and when I bought this boat, the topsides were pretty sad and I got lots of compliments on the look after Poliglow treatment. Now, 5 years later, the

Stus-List water tank level sensor

2018-04-23 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
I discovered last fall that my boat actually has sensors in the three water tanks. There are small lights on the panel and double/triple throw switches that appear to allow you to turn it on and switch from tank sensor to tank sensor. I think the lights correspond to 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full , but

Stus-List universal m4-30 air filter

2018-04-22 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
I removed the air filter holder from my engine today to check on whether it needed cleaning and was surprised to find the filter soaked in oil and a significant amount of oil inside the housing. I found there was a tygon/rubber tube running from a fitting on the top of the engine that ended

Stus-List flexible solar panel on hatch

2018-04-08 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
I am considering putting a thin flexible solar panel on the companionway sliding hatch. I have found ones that would fit, but I am unsure of how I would connect it. The power cable would have to be able to move 3-4’ as the hatch slides open and closed and not catch on the hatch itself. If

I am considering redoing the cove stripe on my boat as it is pretty faded. I found a few old emails about this topic and both used vinyl tape. One person used 1/2” tape and one 5/8” and I can see the logic for both. Anyone done this more recently or have comments on longevity? How did you

I installed the Add A Battery Kit myself (with plenty of list and Blue Sea help) last spring and the off position turns off the house battery. I presume it turns off the starting battery as well, but I have never tried to start the engine in the off position. Dave > On Apr 8, 2018, at 12:40

2018-02-16 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
I had a PSS put in on my 34 thinking it was a good upgrade, but on my 34+ decided not to do it. The reason is that if not maintained properly, you can have catastrophic failure of the PSS and sink the boat. I replaced the packing with teflon on my 34+ 3 years ago and it was pretty trivial,

Not sure I agree with “Freezing is a valid concern”. It has worried me, but I have had frozen water in my bilge every winter I have owned the boat and it has not caused any problems that I know of. I rationalize this as an effect of water expanding along the path of least resistance, so should

All this discussion of engine (Universal M4-30) starting has reminded me of something I want to do in the spring, but am not sure how to approach. My engine runs fine at idle, which is around 1000rpm (don’t remember exactly what gauge reads). If I shift into reverse it almost always stalls.
