network was using 10.0.0.0/8 and the interface parameters was givenby DHCP.

Which kernel (uname -a) do you run with which version of iptables (rpm -q iptables)?

The DrakX installation was in vga16, which is not pretty...

some bioses (if not most) are buggy.
quite a lot wrongly fill (when they bore to create them) acpi tables.
this is why acpi=off is needed for some machines.
