-Caveat Lector- RIOT AT BRITISH ARMY BASE ON CYPRUS An attack on a British military base in Cyprus was today condemned as "completely unacceptable" by the British foreign secretary, Jack Straw. British soldiers and military police clashed with angry protesters who had stormed the Akrotiri base last night, setting fire to vehicles and destroying equipment. Over 40 police officers and 29 Cypriot nationals are reported to have been injured in the incident. The trouble was sparked by a demonstration against the construction of new communication antennae in an environmentally sensitive area.
