basically just copies all the modules d-i needs from our existing
kernel packages which, on i386, are maintained by Herbert Xu. I
reassigned your b44 problem to Herbert already; what exactly were you
looking for?

This is, of course, more than just a cosmetic issue since users might
think that the installer hangs. Anyway, I've attached some output
from ps aux below - recorded when the progress bar showed

few months ago. But perhaps the device should be added to discover?

Can you switch to F2 and type modprobe alim15x3. Does that help?

on a system without /etc/locale*.
(Calling perl with LANG=en_US before generating the locales is a bug
in base-config, but those 3 messages above are a bug in something
else.)
