Good bad news. The good news is that I figured out how to fix the problem
in my case:
rm /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-cd.rules
That file contained automatically generated rules for the *old* hardware.
When I removed that file and restarted udev, the file was regenerated
appropriately
