I can confirm this behavior. I suffered it with schroot processes
invoked from cron.
The cause seems to be in schroot-listmounts, which tries to open
/dev/tty. This yields an epmty list of mounts when there is no

installed and ran hibernate-ram and it suspended without a problem. The

Previously, I could send an instant message to a phone number using my
AIM account using the phone number (with a '+' in front) as a buddy
name. Now these messages do not reach their destination. No error
message pops up, nor does
Though I think this is truly a debian-installer bug (the boot image on
the cd is created by the d-i build system not debian-cd), it vanished
a long time ago - even before sarge.
I don't remember what exactly fixed it.

the attached patch changes the sysvinit init.d script(s) to allow splash
scripts to hook into the fsck stage so that special action can be taken
(in the case of usplash, this would be to set a high timeout and to let
the progressbar reflect that an unknown amount of time
