I have a similar problem here, same hardware.
*But* I do believe this has nothing to do with
xserver-xorg-video-radeon as my suspend-to-disk is also broken without
X running. This looks like a kernel bug actually.
Every test described bellow gives the same results, that is:
- black screen

phppgadmin 4.x isn't supposed to work on php 5.3.
I'd suggest patching Misc.php as Alan suggests. That is what I've
done as well to make phppgadmin work, and it doesn't change the

Attached are 2 patches. One for Lenny to help people patch this into
lenny for the rest of lennys life time
(u-u-lenny.patch).
The second and more important patch is for unstable/testing/squeeze
(u-u-0.61.patch).
