Just uploaded 2.0-6 with the user of xz compression for the binaries to safe

I also saw this problem. Thanks to all your info above, I've got a patch
that makes it skip the XDG_PICTURES_DIR attempt on failure to get the value,
so that it falls back to HOME as expected.
