It seems that the bug closed in 0.4.3-2+b1 is similar and still exists in
version 1.2.0~dfsg+1-1 in wheezy
If I run gmerlin (whithout any option) in a bash shell it exit with segfault.

Probably. I've just tried with lightdm, and it has a similar problem:
it doesn't show any user. *However* lightdm has a fallback that
