It turns out this is because the upgrade tried to make both the builtin
motherboard ethernet port and the external PCI port eth0.

I have tried three completely different working directories with
similar results:

this is almost certainly a bug in monotone.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send me copies of any messages that concern my
bug reports, otherwise I won't see them.

Hmmm... It seems to be working now, strange. The only messages I get
seem to be unrelated bugs somewhere - its trying to mount devices that
don't exist or which are not removable (I assume

I suspect you might have sent this to the wrong bug report.
#362952 is a old bug report concerning amavisd-new not being able to
purge properly. It has nothing to do with xine-ui.

I believe this is xen specific.
It happens as soon as the kernel module is loaded.
From memory, starting X now with the matching X driver will hang the
computer (at least with the 2.6.17 kernel, haven't tried it again
