With the first approach, any package using the new syntax in its
symbols files would completely lose this functionality on dpkg
releases that don't understand the new syntax (unmodded dpkg doesn't
completely fail, but it appears to simply not match a
-file.c,
where vb.buf is apparently not guaranteed to be NULL-terminated. I'm
honestly not sure how this test ever passed under these circumstances.
Change the test_str() to "test_mem(vb.buf, ==, ref_data,
strlen(ref_data))", and I get a solid pass.
