It is completely unrelated to dovecot-imapd. What made mutt crash all
the time, was the contents of LD_PRELOAD. I had /usr/lib/libaoss.so
(package alsa-oss) preloaded all the time in order to enable OSS

When I switch to direct Internet connection, blam works as expected.
anything that the Debian exim 4 packages can to with
regard to this bug report?
I haven't received any substantive response from my provider. So if you
feel an urgent need to close this bug, go ahead.
