I plugin my laptop to a docking station, start xfce and use multiple
monitors via xrandr.
While things work find after xrandr, the width of workspaces in the
panel changes only a bit.

PS: I was wondering if you use this feature of scp often. Looks like
the submitter wanted a more protocol-indep solution to the bandwidth
problem.
