Thanks for bringing my attention to this; I really have no idea how I missed that over the past six years :/ I have added pcre2 support to the upstream repository of confget: https://gitlab.com/confget/confget/-/commit/3be97f9b4095eeba8025a8d10908fcafedc1530b I guess I shall release a new upstream version and then update the Debian package in the next couple of days.
