To add to the previous briefly, as I didn't explicitly mention this.

Early initramfs should:

* Activate the resume device (one of the swap) for resume handling.
* Activate the rootfs.

Once rootfs is there, remaining PVs etc will cascade activate through the 
setup from late-stage boot process onwards.

Early initramfs should NOT call vgchange and activate things it doesn't need 
to activate, specific lvchange is better in my opinion.
