Upstream has no interest in migrating to GTK3, and will keep maintaining the current GTK2 version. Because of this, my interest in the package is minimal - see #967259 [1]. (This could theoretically change if upstream changes their mind regarding GTK3, but it seems very unlikely [2]). There is a GTK3 port that seems to work just fine [3], but I don't want to become the sole upstream of it. I might look at another implementation in another language though...
