The only change that is required to build 0.23.0 is dropping gcc12.patch which is included upstream. If you do not have the time to make this happen, I can do it for you via a NMU.

Hi all, as 0.23.0 has proper support of OpenSSL 3.0 it fixes several issues that we are facing in testing/bookworm right now. One concrete example can be found in [1]. It would be nice to have 0.23.0 in bookworm before we enter the code- freeze phase. Best regards, Florian [1]

Source: opensc Version: 0.22.0-2.1 Upstream has released 0.23.0 which has official support for OpenSSL 3.0. I am very interested to get PKCS#11 "support for encryption and decryption using symmetric keys" (0.23.0 changelog) in Debian as there is no command-line alternative for it currently.
