with not the default icon directory I meant that the icon was
installed in /usr/share/vym/icons/ instead of /usr/share/pixmaps, which
is suggested as default icon directory in Ubuntu (see
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MOTU/Packages/DesktopFiles); I don't know if
that is important in Debian,
I attach a .desktop file which cover all the previous issues and adds
some translations.

Im working on a new version correcting this bug.
What do you mean by not the default icon directory ?
AFAICS, the desktop file is in the right place : /usr/share/applications/
But you are right when saying that vym shortcut is in Accesories and Education
menu.
So what do you suggest ?
