I observed the same bug when installing Debian 6.0.2 on an IBM Power 740. Installation went normal and as expected. However, when rebooting into the new system, yaboot hangs with the following error (mind the wrong line breaks):
Welcome to yaboot version 1.3.13 Enter "help" to get some basic usage information boot: Linux old boot: Please wait, loading kernel... Can't open device </vdevice/v-scsi@30000002/@1:0> /vdevice/v-scsi@30000002/@1:2,/boot/vmlinux: Unable to open file, Invalid device boot: For further details see http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2011/09/msg00039.html and http://lists.debian.org/debian-powerpc/2011/09/msg00050.html Updating yaboot to version 1.3.16-4 and changing the yaboot configuration "boot=" to a real device path of /dev/sda1 in my case fixed this. -- Benedikt Wegmann benedikt.wegm...@gwdg.de +49 (0)551 201-1870 bwegm...@jabber.gwdg.de .........................
