Hm, apparently it just did take gnome-settings-daemon a while to notice that I had undocked. Can't exactly say how long, but I no longer have the lock. Was a bit confusing, since I undocked and closed the lid and wondered by nothing happened.
Will try to reproduce this sluggish behaviour -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
