I had a closer look, and this is definitely a problem with
python-flickrapi. Reassigning.
This problem also affect Jessie, and I believe an update is in order.
I will upload a NMU with the patch soon, unless I am asked not to.

After looking closer at the code, I believe this bug should be of
severity grave, as the python module is useless or close to useless
when it can't talk to the current Flickr API.
I've uploaded a NMU to fix it to the 2 day delayed queue, see bug
#769958.
