I made an upload today which incorporates that patch (with a small fix
as udev needs a aproper ordering on shutdown against umountroot).
So it's no longer necessary that you create a MR.
Just wanted to let you know to avoid unnecessary work.

Hi,
I write directly to you, as in the past you pointed out some additional
fixes to do
is there any remaining work that I can do to get this patch merged? it
a really annoying bug, that prevents a clean shutdown/unmount of the
system
many thanks in advance

Hi,
I can confirm the version 239-7 is affected by this bug and it's fixed
by the patch written by Pali Rohár
I've added a fix in the maintainer scripts to actually create rc.d
symlinks on upgrade and some little lifting to the init.d script
thanks to all the people involved!
also I would like

This bug has affected one of my remote servers after upgrading to Stretch.
I would have appreciated a hint in Release Notes not (yet) to install
Debian 9 on servers with sysvinit and encrypted partitions.
Anyway, while the fix to this bug is not present in Stretch, I have
created two simplistic

The patch seems to contain some left-over comments. Afaics it also
misses the changes to the maintainer scripts which make sure the
/etc/rc{0,6} symlinks are created on upgrades.

I'm afraid I can't help backporting the fix to Stretch, but as Pali
mentioned this bug causes a severe regression for sysvinit users with
encrypted disks.
If udev can't be fixed in time maybe cryptsetup could ship a
Problem is still present in Stretch and cause system hangs at
shutdown/reboot when using LUKS encryption. See:

Stretch has only version 232. As in Jessie is version 215 and according
to first post this problem was introduced in 221, it
