Package: lintian-brush
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

We are a group of people trying to minimize the number of packages
with maintainer scripts in Debian. There are many reasons for this
and one is that it would simplify deployment of new prototypes and
ideas such as [InstallBootstrap].

Therefore, it would be nice if lintian-brush could automatically clean
up old maintscripts entries (i.e. entries from debian/*.maintscripts
and debian/maintscript) that are no longer needed. This would reduce
the amount of manual work involved.

Obviously, this would be even better if lintian-brush could *also* fix
[maintainer-script-should-not-use-dpkg-maintscript-helper] because
then it would naturally expand in coverage. :)

PS: Obviously, an important step is also to improve the tooling in the
other end to reduce the number of maintscripts needed at all or need
to be migrated. We are working on that in parallel, but it will be a
long transition before we are all done and lintian-brush + Debian
janitor will be very useful in finishing that transition.
