Bug#1067927: Please display changelog for all versions between current and upgrade

2024-03-28 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: fwupd
Version: 1.9.14-1
Severity: normal
X-Debbugs-Cc: j...@joshtriplett.org

When fwupd proposes upgrading firmware (e.g. BIOS), it shows the
changelog for the target version. However, typically that changelog only
states the changes made in the most recent version. If the user is
upgrading from, say, 1.50 to 1.53, showing the changelog for 1.53 does
not explain the changes in 1.51 and 1.52.

Please consider addressing this by providing a way to view the
changelogs for all the versions in between.

Hello,

I think it's external plugin's bug and not Calibre's bug.
But I will keep this bug open as you requested.

If you think the bug is fixed, let me know.
Or close this bug by yourself.

Bug#1067896: Acknowledgement (libraptor2-0: memcpy integer underflow and heap read overflow)

2024-03-28 Thread Pedro Ribeiro
I rewrote a bit of the first issue to better understand it, and also
provide a patch:

## 1. Integer Underflow in `raptor_uri_normalize_path()`

There's an integer underflow in a path length calculation in
`raptor_uri_normalize_path()`.

This can be triggered by running the PoC below:

```
utils/rapper -i turtle memcpy_int_underflow.poc
rapper: Parsing URI file:///memcpy_int_underflow.poc with parser turtle
rapper: Serializing with serializer ntriples
free(): invalid pointer
Aborted
```

With an ASAN build of `rapper` we can more clearly see the issue without
the need of a debugger:

```
raptor-asan/utils/rapper -i turtle memcpy_int_underflow.poc
rapper: Parsing URI file:///memcpy_int_underflow.poc with parser turtle
rapper: Serializing with serializer ntriples
==2406522==ABORTING
```

The crash occurs because `raptor_uri_normalize_path()`, which does some
complicated jiggling to normalize paths, and fails to take into account
integer underflows. The function will not be shown here as it is quite
complex.

`raptor_uri_normalize_path()` is called from
`raptor_uri_resolve_uri_reference()` to normalize a path, and the crash
occurs in a juicy `memcpy()` inside `raptor_uri_resolve_uri_reference()`
(`raptor_rfc2396.c:664`) where `result.path_len` is the underflowed
integer (ASAN's `negative-size-param`), and `result.path` is attacker
controlled:

```c
  if(result.path) {
    memcpy(p, result.path, result.path_len);
    p+= result.path_len;
  }
```

The non-ASAN crash in `free()` shown at the top occurs in line 685:

```c
  if(path_buffer)
    RAPTOR_FREE(char*, path_buffer);
```

The fix, however, is rather simple! The function contains several of
these checks after each calculation:

```c
#if defined(RAPTOR_DEBUG)
  if(path_len != strlen((const char*)path_buffer))
    RAPTOR_FATAL3("Path length %ld does not match calculated %ld.",
(long)strlen((const char*)path_buffer), (long)path_len);
#endif
```

If we remove the `#if defined` / `#endif` around this code in lines 396
and 399, we get an error instead of a crash:
`raptor_rfc2396.c:397:raptor_uri_normalize_path: fatal error: Path
length 0 does not match calculated -5.Aborted`

### 1.1 Steps to reproduce

`rapper -i turtle memcpy_int_underflow.poc`

Contents of `memcpy_int_underflow.poc`:

```
@base  .
@prefix bdf: <.&/../?D/../../1999/02/22-rdf-syntax-ns#>/dbpe
The trilinos itself blocks the compilation of many packages.
Based on the attached patch, the trilinos package was compiled
successfully on my local loong64 rootfs environment.
I have built 132 binary packages from trilinos on local ENV.
Could you enable loong64 support in debian/control in the next upload?
Your suggestions are always welcome.
I suppose that I _could_ have made a symlink in /usr/include/cdk,
to address both old/new locations.  You might consider that for
the package...
...yes - I didn't record a reason for the change, so likely what prompted it
was noting that cdk.h includes all of the other files, which makes it
inconsistent to put it in the same subdirectory as the others.  fwiw, I do the
not really (actually I don't keep track for any of my programs)
In a quick check of other packages that I know about, I don't see any using
the subdirectory.  (I've corrected the configure option, just for tidiness).
I suppose it depends on how many packages have to be tweaked.
(actually in the current set of changes for time_t, I'd suppose
that changes like this would be less favored)
Ok, will do. Closing this one, then.
We already override the default test timeout for arm, mips64el and riscv64 to 60 minutes,
If you expect these tests to pass on a host with only one or two cores, we will
Yes, I expect it to work on all systems on which prometheus itself works.
We can see what was done in the snapshot and the maintainer did this
by recovering from the snapshot sending to Salsa the work he had done
and sent to the experimental. The issue is that we need a volunteer to
finish the work, test and send it to unstable to resolve bugs
(including CVEs), patches and send new versions of some other
packages. A work that I see as delicate and needs to be well tested to
guarantee quality. I would have to check if the Salsa snapshot matches
the previous one, which it doesn't, new uploads still need to enter
the experimental and I would have to check with the maintainer that
I'm already pinging if he would be interested in continuing what he
was doing given that he already has knowledge. And work has been done,
the version 0.10.2 being pending can be upload done, which includes
several fixes. But looking at Salsa there are many commits pending.
Furthermore, there is a person who is reporting some problems with
patch suggestions that would also have to be analyzed, his name is
Julian Wollrath. But I want to see if I can help organize everything
yet and an upload NMU is possible.
I think you are taking the "FAILED" out of context and misinterpreting
the test output. Those are TestRulesUnitTest/* subtests, which are
expected to fail. The summary at the end shows the expected results:
You will see this in the output of _passing_ debci test runs.
Please can you find in your logs the _actual_ failing test or tests,
because it is not TestRulesUnitTest.
If you are running tests on a VM with a single core, it's quite likely
that you're hitting the test timeout, which I would find a more
reasonable explanation for the dh_auto_test_error, since the Prometheus
tests are quite extensive. They will take more than an hour on an 11th
gen Intel Core i7 if I set GOMAXPROCS=1. Since debian/rules is setting a
test timeout of 20m by default, this would fail.
That sounds sensible.
Would you mind to contribute test cases as well? The canoncal place for
those test cases would probably be debian/tests/f/uidgidpool.t
I would accept such updates in stable now and in the future. What's the
The patch is catastrophically wrong.
+-  snprintf(flushtime, sizeof(flushtime), "%ld\n", now);
++  snprintf(flushtime, sizeof(flushtime), "%lld\n", now);
Change that to:
++  snprintf(flushtime, sizeof(flushtime), "%lld\n", (long long)now);
time_t is not guaranteed to be 64-bit (or even integer, by ISO C),
it must always be coerced into the expected type for printf.
Please forward this upstream as well.
Might as well want to check that flushtime is large enough, too.
It works perfectly for me on pulseaudio, however I can see you now
Bug#1055451: prosody: Bug still present in prosody 0.12.4-1~bpo12+1
2024-03-28 Thread Matija Nalis
Package: prosody
Version: 0.12.4-1~bpo12+1
Followup-For: Bug #1055451
X-Debbugs-Cc: mnalis-debian...@voyager.hr
Control: tags -1 patch
Dear Maintainer,
I can confirm the issue is still present in prosody 0.12.4-1~bpo12+1 from
bookworm-backports, and affects all non-systemd installations. E.g.:
# /etc/init.d/prosody stop ; ps auxfw | grep prosod | grep -v grep
Stopping Prosody XMPP Server: prosody.
prosody   3005  0.0  0.1  54900  8344 ?S20:42   0:00 lua5.4
/usr/bin/prosody -D
Attached is a simple patch that fixes it.
In the future, /etc/init.d/prosody should be kept in sync with debian/control
"Depends:" field (i.e. if prosody depends on "lua5.4", then init.d script
should
reference "lua5.4" too).
This seems to be a regression caused by
https://salsa.debian.org/emacsen-team/debian-el/-/commit/67dbe593b650b7748e8cbe93fdb8f0cf883563ad.
I'll test a fix soon.
Meanwhile, you can temporarily add "(require 'debian-el)" or
"(use-package debian-el)" in your init.el as a workaround
Will also take a look.
BTW, please feel free to file one bug per issue which helps us tracking
those issues.  Thanks for your reports!
Bug#1066203: recode: FTBFS: error.c:197:43: error: implicit declaration of function ‘strcmp’ [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
2024-03-28 Thread Santiago Vila
Ok, the problem was that CFLAGS now contains
-Werror=implicit-function-declaration
by default, set by dpkg-buildflags in unstable.
The minimal fix is to drop such option, by adding this line to debian/rules:
export DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_STRIP = -Werror=implicit-function-declaration
I'm Cc:ing Andrey Rakhmatullin, who was kind enough to look at this
and try to diagnose it.
Thanks.
Bug#1067130: modernizr: NMU or update to latest upstream 3.12 or 3.13
2024-03-28 Thread Fab Stz
To build modernizr an additional source file is required (file.js) this file is
added to missing-sources (it comes from the npm package of the same name from
npm server or from upstreams repo). It is required by the build script from
upstream.
The patch is only here to use that file. That way there is no need to create a
Debian package for it (packaging npm nodes is beyond my knowledge and I'm not
really interested in doing that).
Concerning your other question, I don't understand it. The binary packages only
ships the js & min.js, not the build script. The missing sources is required
only by the build script iirc.
I would recommend following the recently updated documentation:
https://salsa.debian.org/salsa-ci-team/pipeline/#adding-extra-arguments-to-reprotest
In short, switching to:
  SALSA_CI_REPROTEST_ARGS: '--vary=-build_path'
I think this behaves more like people would expect, e.g. disabling build
path variations and not anything else.
I do not understand:
- please document the patch using dep format
- explain how the build script do not ship in /usr/share debian/missingsources
Bug#1067130: modernizr: NMU or update to latest upstream 3.12 or 3.13
2024-03-28 Thread Fab Stz
Hello Bastien,
Iirc not so many packages depend on it and none seems to use the files that are
not shipped anymore in the binary package (the individual 'rules').
Concerning the build maybe you could look at d/rules on the merge request. It
uses upstream's build script that builds the complete js.
Fab
Bug#1067908: Enable I6300ESB_WDT
2024-03-28 Thread Andrew Jorgensen
Package: linux-image-cloud-amd64
Version: 6.1.76-1
Severity: wishlist
GCE will introduce a virtual watchdog timer device, implemented to
appear as an Intel 6300ESB. The team implementing the device reports
that the driver is not available on Debian. It looks like it's been in
the kernel for ~19 years, so it should be a matter of setting
CONFIG_I6300ESB_WDT=m (and any dependencies).
If it's possible to get this into Debian 11 as well, that would be
good. Cloud kernels only would be sufficient. arm64 as well.
Dear Maintainer,
flam3-genome randomly segfaults on ppc64el, but runs OK on all other
architectures.
See
segfaults maybe one run in five.
Bug#1051496: mailgraph: does not support the new syslog format
2024-03-28 Thread Jörg Frings-Fürst
severity 1051496 normal
tags 1051496 + moreinfo
Hello Michael,
thank you for spending your time helping to make Debian better with this bug
report.
We are using mailgraph one multiple server with Debian Bullseye, Bookworm and
Trixie without any failure.
Therefore I set the severity to normal.
Please can you provide more details about your error? A depersonalized excerpt
of the log files and the installed dependencies are important.
Hello Peter,
it works perfectly fine in trixie and both maintainers and upstream are
actively working together to resolve the issue in sid.
I recently had a look at mpg321 because it had a FTBFS bug, I hotfixed
this by NMU and looking at the package got the distinct impression of
having stumbled over a package that we would better be off without in
trixie.
There are loads of old bugs including rather severe ones at first
glance. The fact that the packaging is very dated is not the real
problem (Updating to dh could probably be done in in an , since it os
basically a single binary package.) There is just a lot of technical
debt due to missing upstream, it does not need maintainership but a new
upstream author.
On my local system there simply is no sound output, I suspect it cannot
work when pipewire or pulseaudio is used.
Bug#1064765: prometheus: FTBFS: dh_auto_test error
Hello. I don't quite understand how the above fix is related to
the bug itself (but maybe it's because I don't know prometheus internals).
As described in the patch:
This cherry-picks part of a commit relating to negotiation of the
"Accept" header, which became more complex with prometheus/common
0.47.0. See upstream commit a28d786.
This resolved the original FTBFS for which this bug was opened, as far
as I could see, which was this test failure:
> === RUN   TestFederationWithNativeHistograms
> federate_test.go:417:
/<>/.build/src/github.com/prometheus/prometheus/web/federate_test.go:417
>Error:  Not equal:
>expected: 4
>actual  : 1
>Test:   TestFederationWithNativeHistograms
> --- FAIL: TestFederationWithNativeHistograms (0.01s)
I was able to reliably reproduce that failure by rolling forward / back
the prometheus/common dependency in go.mod on a local git clone.
In either case, this is still happening for me in the current version:
Lucas Nussbaum  wrote:
This sounds like a _new_ bug.
Note: I'm currently using virtual machines with 1 CPU and with 2 CPUs
for archive rebuilds. On systems with 2 CPUs, the package FTBFS randomly.
On systems with 1 CPU, the package FTBFS always.
Therefore, to reproduce, please try GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nr_cpus=1"
in /etc/default/grub first.
I'm struggling to see how a different number of CPU cores would elicit
the aforementioned new bug. It doesn't seem to have the typical
characteristics of a race condition. I'll have to try to find some time
to setup a VM and try to reproduce it.
Bug#1067130: modernizr: NMU or update to latest upstream 3.12 or 3.13
2024-03-28 Thread Fab Stz
Dear Maintainers,
I'm thinking of doing an NMU for the package by updating it to 3.13.0-0.1. The
MR is now open since July 2023 and this bug referencing it has been existing
for about 10 days (in case the MR wouldn't have been noticed).
There is also bug https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1001203
which request a newer version since 2021.
BTW, I would require a sponsor to upload the NMU.
Do you have advice or comment on this?
Regards
Fab
Bug#1067904: $frontend-$version-for-host: versioned dependency too strict
Source: gcc-14
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch
User: helm...@debian.org
Hi Matthias,
thanks for merging my -for-host work. I'm looking into making practical
use of it and a major issue is the following dependency:
$FRONTEND-$VERSION-for-host:$DEB_HOST_ARCH ->
$FRONTEND-$VERSION-$DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE (= ${gcc:Version})
While this works nicely for native compilers, trying to use the
-for-host package with a cross toolchain is doomed to fail, because it
always has different version. The equal constraint is too strict to make
practical use of these -for-host packages. I think we should change (=
${gcc:Version}) to (>= ${gcc:SoftVersion}) as is done elsewhere. Do you
agree?
I'm attaching the obvious patch.
Bug#1067901: jh_installjavadoc: should not write duplicative doc-base files.
2024-03-28 Thread James Addison
Package: javahelper
Version: 0.79
Severity: normal
User: reproducible-bui...@lists.alioth.debian.org
Usertags: fileordering
Control: affects -1 libpixels-java
Dear Maintainer,
I'm an occasional volunteer contributor to the Reproducible Builds[1] project,
and noticed that the 'libpixels-java' package, which build-depends on
javahelper (src:javatools) and uses jh_installjavadoc, failed[2] an automated
build test on the Reproducible Builds test infrastructure for Debian.
In particular, the /usr/share/doc-base/libpixels-java.libpixels-java file
varied between a control and experimental package build.
The cause seems to relate to logic that writes[3] a '$package.doc-base.javadoc'
file into the 'debian' directory during build.
In the case of libpixels-java, that template file is written alongside an
existing 'debian/doc-base' file[4] contained in the source package.  Both of
the files then contain an identical doc-id statement[5], and it's unpredictable
which of them will be read[6] from the directory by dh_installdocs - it depends
on the ordering returned by the filesystem.
If it seems like a reasonable solution to you, perhaps jh_installjavadoc could
be modified so that it does not write a templated doc-base file for a package
when it detects an existing doc-base file that contains the same doc-id?
Thank you,
James
Perhaps just UTC?
The attached patch by Vladimir Petko was sent upstream and fixes the
FTBFS on armhf/armel.
Bug#1067771: cdk.h file location has changed, breaks application build
2024-03-28 Thread Steven Robbins
Hello Thomas!
Thanks for chiming in on this issue.  I had sent a follow-up at about the same
time you did with a few details on the history as I could reconstruct it.
See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1067771#18
In summary: I believe you changed the default location from  to
 in 2012, adding a configure option at the same time.  When this version
was uploaded to Debian (much later), a debian-specific patch was added to
retain the original location.  Four years ago, the previous debian maintainer
removed that patch - but was never uploaded to debian unstable.  I took over
maintenance a month ago and inadvertently uploaded to unstable a version where
the header change from 2012 was exposed for the first time.
I can see a valid argument for retaining the Debian practice.  But when I
discovered that the upstream change was 12 years old, I figured that there are
likely other folks long used to the "new" header location and have adapted
their code.  So there is also a valid argument to adhering to the upstream
location and harmonizing the landscape for code using libcdk.
I actually did a search on github and discovered examples of all three cases:
* code using  only
* code using  only
* code that probes both locations and uses the one found
I'm wondering whether you have an opinion on the merits of one path versus the
other.  Do you have any information about how much currently-maintained
software is still using ?
At present, I'm leaning towards retaining the default location .
Thanks,
-Steve
Bug#1067899: O: qt-avif-image-plugin -- Qt plug-in to read/write AVIF images
2024-03-28 Thread Boyuan Yang
Package: wnpp
Control: affects -1 + src:qt-avif-image-plugin
Severity: normal
I intend to orphan the qt-avif-image-plugin package. The avif format
support is already provided by KDE's kimageformat-plugins, and a
standalone qt-avif-image-plugin with conflict files may have little
usage.
The package description is:
 Qt plug-in to allow Qt and KDE based applications to read/write
 AVIF images.
 .
 Similar functionality is also provided in package kimageformat-plugins
 as part of KDE. General users should consider using KDE-provided
 plugin instead.
Thanks,
Boyuan Yang
Bug#1067898: atril, dependencies unsatisfiable on 32-bit non-i386 architectures.
Yokota,
Please, don't close bugs just because they are fixed upstream, the
fixed-upstream exists exactly for this. The report shall remain open
until the bug is fixed on all currently published Debian releases. I
don't know yet whether the fix is already on an official Calibre
release, or just on their development repository. What I have no doubt
is the bug is still present on stable (bookworm), so until it gets
fixed there this report shall remain open. Feel free to tag it for
bookworkm, bullseye and buster appropriately if the fix is already into
testing and unstable.
Thanks a lot for your understanding and your effort at maintaining the
package.
Best regards,
José Luis
