I have a similar bug here on Sony Vaio laptop, I think.
If I want shutdown gnome session, I have to press return key twice.
I am using Etch with the -686 kernel.

When I want to shutdown the computer with gdm, it switches to the first vterm,
and down at the login prompt stands [37:2R.
At this point, I have to press the return key twice to make the computer
