Package: emacs22 Version: 23.1+1.5 When running in LaTeX mode (the one coming with emacs itself, provided by /usr/share/emacs/23.1/lisp/textmodes/tex-mode.elc, *not* AucTex!!), the command tex-bibtex-file (keyboard shortcut C-c Tab) fails as the tex-shell erroneously goes in the home directory instead of the working directory, so the *.aux file is not found.
See http://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=5562 The bug is already fixed in the 'trunk' version of emacs (the one that gets pulled by default via bzr). Making the textmodes/tex-mode.el file from 'trunk' compile and substitute the resulting textmodes/tex-mode.elc file for the one coming with the debian package, the problem is gone and tex-bibtex-file behaves as in earlier versions of emacs.
