in Quod Libet. A
temporary fix is to remove the python-gst (which is for 0.8) package.

I can't reproduce this, but you're the third person I've heard it from

This is a grave GStreamer bug.

Sebastian, do you understand what an API is, and why changes like that
ARE NOT ALLOWED, especially in point releases?

So please forward the patch upstream.
I am upstream. I'd rather not merge it there, because really is an
SDL/Pygame bug (which will be fixed in 1.8; Pygame also has a regression
test for it now, so hopefully it won't happen again).

I believe Tristan has already sent 0.22 to his sponsor for upload, and
so it should be fixed soon.

This is completely false. Although the original reporter may have been
using Python 2.4 causing his pygst to be missing, Quod Libet makes no
use of D-BUS, and its lack will not cause QL to stop functioning.

0.9.9.3 uses a different API to load shared object files, which is the
primary purpose of the ctypes library. This version of the package
and invalidates the tutorial.
The tutorial is out of date, as well as the samples. The samples have been
removed from CVS, and I will update the tutorail asap.

This is an incompatibility between PyGTK versions manifesting itself in
gst-python. A quick fix is to upgrade to PyGTK 2.8, and python-gst
0.8.3-2 (coming soon) from unstable.
I'm very sorry.

Okay, seeing this with an older version of QL confirms the suspicion I
had earlier -- the segfault isn't from QL, but from a changed
python-gtk2 ABI change.

Sorry, I realized my response was totally unhelpful for a short term
solution. If you upgrade to PyGTK 2.8 from unstable, QL should run fine
again. This is a horrible situation between PyGSt and PyGTK.

Please do. This is breaking any Python package built on unstable (where
break means will never propogate to testing). Joss's patch was very
premature and hadn't seen any discussion on debian-python.

After talking to Marco d'Itri, he's agreed to include the updated udev

consists of anymore, so I've filed a removal request at #346131.
