gnome-settings-daemon from unstable (3.0.3-3).
Please also make sure to upgrade orbit2/liborbit2 (to 1:2.14.19-0.1).

I cannot test gnome-settings-daemon 3.0.3-3 as it has not reached Wheezy
yet, but I haven't been able to reproduce this bug in over a month.
I downgraded to gnome-settings-daemon 2.30.2-3 and I have subsequently
upgraded to running gnome-settings-daemon 2.30.2-4 without any issue.

I am also experiencing this bug.
I do not fully understand what the issue is, but I think that it is an issue
with libnotify rather than gnome-settings-daemon.
Running gnome-settings-daemon as root appears to be a
