I have been able to reproduce this bug. I think installing xfonts-100dpi or
xfonts-75dpi should fix it. Could you please confirm that ?

Ubuntu by disabling the tests.

After a quick look, I think the new upstream version needs to be
packaged to fix this bug. And the package is currently useless because
audacious does not detect the plugin.
There also seems to be a plugin named ModPlug in audacious-plugins which
may have the same features.
