Hi Wow, Tom is right but kernel recompile is the more painful way. I have gone through this pain of upgrading for my i486DX2 gateway. Why compiling kernel is painful I belive he have relatively new laptop with strong CPU a lot of ram, Hardware shoud not be a problem, any way if u have

I am trying to install debian and am having a problem. My cable modem provider requires that I pass a computer name to them to use dhcp. With most other distros I would type /sbin/dhcpcd -h computername, but with debian I can't. How can i pass the computer name during install to the dhcp

I did find one thread that indicates that ACPI support is a factor... I tried it, and ACPI didn't help. I compiled a new kernel, set my laptop to automatic mode and booted up at full speed. I was able to run glxgears (which does a good job of maintaining 100% cpu usage) for about 5
