Michael Creel made a replacement lh_binary_rootfs that you can use with Lenny:

This is probably the easiest fix, just put it in /usr/bin.

When I set up an image to use the stripped hook:
lh_config --hooks stripped --apt apt
sudo lh_build
it gives me the error:
/usr/bin/env: stripped: No such file or directory
Any ideas why this could be?

In the current version of live-helper it seems that when you use
live-installer on the CD, the same kernel is put in /installer and
/installer/gtk. The initrds are different, but the kernels the same,
so removing one could save ~1.3MB of space.
