My suggestion would be to just pick the packages from openSUSE [1]
since they are kept up-to-date.

kernel packages have been rebuilt, I can try building debian-installer on
powerpc and ppc64 again and if that works, I can build new installation
images.

at the moment so I'm not sure a sparc64 porterbox
would help you.
We can still give you access to the sparc64 porterbox if the problem
is big-endian-specific, but I guess access to an s390x machine would be
better. Although for that you would have to contact the s390x folk.
