Thanks for providing the additional information I requested, Tobias. I am still puzzled by a few things. First, the build of FreeImage 3.17.0 in Fedora 23 [1] and 24 [2] does not require patching the source code for libpng16. This is also consistent with the fact that the FreeImage 3.17.0
