Can't startx due t fixed fonts

Everytime I go to startx I get the error message that it can't find Fixed Fonts and x dies. Apparently this is a known problem and there is a fix for it. But after 2 hours of searching all I have is a headache. I've poked around in XF86Config but there was nothing there about fixed fonts
