This bug is still present in Focal. It seems to have lost focus in upstream. In Focal it is much harder to remove the extension as it is even more tightly linked in as a mandatory dependency for a number of major system components. The only way to remove it is by deleting or renaming its files.

Also, you say there's no evidence of crashes but we should check to see if there are any crashes occurring without a trace. To do that please run: pidof gnome-shell in the evening and again in the morning. They should both report the same process ID. -- You received this bug notification

The journal.txt and top made me think about Gnome being the source of the freezing. I installed Mate and changed DE and have no freeze at all - I guess that proves it has something to do with GNOME. On Mon, 22 Jun 2020 at 08:01, Daniel van Vugt <1884...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: > Please: > >

[Bug 1882462] Re: Displays wake up pre-maturely (likely driven by notification)

2020-06-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
There's a slight chance this is a side-effect of gnome-settings-daemon trying to enforce the default colour profile. It's a bit of a mess but I believe that does so by programming the display hardware directly, independently of the power mode mutter/gnome-shell last set. So if

Hello Daniel! I had one extension active (User Theme) for getting the dark theme truly dark everywhere. I checked top and it is gnome + shell that push the cpu up to over 80% - but only in short bursts. I made two journal files just in case - I'll attach them. Thank you so much for your help!

The XorgLog files seem to show at least one of the monitors being redetected, like it was unplugged and replugged. If Xorg thinks that's happening then yes windows would move to one screen. Please try a different DisplayPort cable. Also, please check that your gnome-shell process ID is the same
